The Railway Children (DVD) |

Edith Nesbit's 1906 novel has remained in print for over 100 years and this is the third version to reach the screen. The link between them is Jenny Agutter, Bobbie in the 1967 TV and 1970 cinema productions and Mother in this 2000 TV presentation, directed by Catherine Morshead. Mother and her three children move to Yorkshire after their father is falsely imprisoned. They strive to prove their father's innocence and their interest in the nearby railway brings an unexpected ally in the form of the Old Gentleman.
The railway sequences in the film were all made here at the Bluebell Railway, utilising our elderly locomotives and stock, including the venerable Great Northern Railway's directors' saloon. A special feature of this DVD is an exclusive interview with Jenny Agutter. 101 minutes.
