Last Days of Steam - Southern Region |
At the age of fifteen, Roger Malone set out with his camera to record the final months of activity in the last outposts of Southern steam traction.
The selection in this book, published 41 years after steam disappeared from the south, takes us to Weymouth, the Isle of Wight, Bournemouth, Eastleigh and the Exeter area. Many of the locomotives he photographed look tired and unkempt and yet, particularly on the route between Waterloo and Weymouth, Bulleid's Pacifics could still put up sterling performances.
