This is one of five cards published by Jonathan Clay, using his own paintings. He is an Associate Member of the Guild of Railway Artists and this large format card (8x6 inches) shows Blackmore Vale, one of the express locomotives designed by Oliver Bulleid for the Southern Railway.

Technically different from most other engines, many of them were rebuilt in the 1950s to a simpler specification. One of these, Sir Archibald Sinclair, is currently under restoration at Sheffield Park but Blackmore Vale is in its original, air-smoothed glory.
