The Bluebell Railway was granted a shield in its early days. The shield shows the arms of the Earl of Sheffield, those of the towns of Lewes & East Grinstead and of the Lords of the Manor of Horsted Keynes. The motto, Floreat Vapor, translates as "Let Steam Flourish".
