The Bluebell Boys' Adventure
For anyone interested in the formation and early days of our railway, this video is quite fascinating. It comprises interviews with three of the four students who conceived the idea of preserving (initially) the line from Lewes to East Grinstead, later choosing the stretch between Sheffield Park and Horsted Keynes.
They are Martin Eastland, Alan Sturt and Chris Campbell and also seen are Klaus Marx, who edited the Society's magazine for over 30 years; Chris Cooper, one of the first members and for many years our Carriage Cleaning Foreman; and Bernard Holden, M.B.E. who chaired the meeting in 1959 that established the Society. He is now our President at the age of 102.
The interviews are interspersed with a selection of contempoorary and vintage footage (including the last train to leave East Grinstead) which draw interesting comparisons between 1960 and the railway as it is today.
Although it is a long video, thanks to the skilful editing of the director, Greg Stevens, interest is maintained throughout because these are personal recollections of a bold venture.
