The Bluebell Railway
Five Decades of AchievementMichael Welch has written other books about the Bluebell and this volume, published to coincide with our 50th anniversary, is a gem. The photographs are all in colour and trace the development of the railway since those pioneering days in 1960.
No-one could be certain that it would be a success so when 2,000 people turned up on August 7th 1960 to witness the first train it was a relief to know that the Bluebell Railway Preservation Society had done the right thing.
Michael takes the reader year by year through the railway's history and this approach, coupled with the first-rate photographs, demonstrates clearly the progress that was made year after year. The last photograph in the book was taken during the heavy snow in December 2009.
