The Book of the T9 4-4-0s

The Irwell Press books on specific locomotives have, so far, concentrated on engines dating from the 1920s onwards. This new volume, written by Richard Derry, goes back to one of the outstanding designs from the late Victorian London & South Western Railway.

Masterminded by Dugald Drummond, the first of the class, nicknamed 'Greyhounds', emerged from Nine Elms Works in 1899. Sixty years later they were still at work, principally in the west of England, living out their days on local passenger traffic.

Each locomotive's history is covered in detail and there is a wealth of photographs ranging from engines in pristine condition to those looking rather careworn at the end.
