This classic comedy from Ealing Studios was inspired by the endeavours of early railway preservationists in Wales. When the Titfiled to Mallingford line is threatened with closure, the vicar, a lifelong railway enthusiast, enlists the help of his parishioners to operate the line.
This brings them into conflict with the competing bus company whose underhand tactics leave them without a locomotive. So an elderly engine, the Titfield Thunderbolt (in reality a Victorian survivior named Lion) is extricated from the local museum and put back into service.
A strong cast, led by George Relph, John Gregson, Naunton Wayne and Stanley Holloway plus Godfrey Tearle, Hugh Griffith and Sid James, make the most of the comic situations. 80 minutes.
