The Metropolitan Railway saw that the green fields alongside its line north of the capital could be turned into attractive suburbs whose residents would then travel on its trains. John Betjeman traces the creation of Metro-Land as a pleasant place to live and adds his own perceptive comments regarding the architecture and the people who lived there.
This is an impressively constructed piece of social history sprinkled with Betjeman's pleasure in the sights and sounds he encounters. Also included are newsreel items relevant to the Metropolitan and an informative 24 page booklet by the film's director, Edward Mirzoeff. 64 minutes.
