|
Hellingly Hospital was one of the great Victorian institutions built to care for the mentally ill. Situated miles from anywhere it was served by a private electric line from Hellingly station on the line between Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne. This Victorian solution to the logistics of running a big enterprise was used to bring patients, visitors and supplies to the Hospital. This illustrated account by Peter A. Harding charts the history of the line.
