Brief Encounter (DVD)
Brief Encounter (DVD) on BlueBell Railway Shop

While this is not a railway film as such, the key scenes take place in the refreshment room at Milford Junction station (actually Carnforth in Lancashire). The screenplay was expanded by Coward from a 1935 one act play called Still Life.

Directed by David Lean, it stars Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson with support from Joyce Carey, Stanley Holloway and Cyril Raymond. Not only does it trace the love affair between Alec Harvey and Laura Jesson but it also shows an England that has long since disappeared - express trains thundering through, dreary refreshment rooms, afternoons at the pictures and tea at the Kardomah coffee house.

This digitally remastered version includes a collectors' booklet, the original cinema trailer, a stills gallery and a documentary entitled A Profile of Brief Encounter. 107 minutes.
